What is the typical cervical herniated disc recovery time without surgery and how does the problem of a herniated disc in the neck progress? Most patients, up to 90%, get better without the need for surgery within a time frame of six to twelve weeks after the herniated cervical disc symptoms (neck pain with arm pain, numbness, tingling and weakness) have developed. If you have been diagnosed with a cervical herniated disc and are not better within that time you may need to consult with a spinal surgeon to discuss surgical treatments.
Dr. Jack Stern is one of the most experienced and expert spine surgeons in New York treating cervical herniated discs. In this video he explains that the first priority is getting patients better without surgery, but if symptoms persist beyond six weeks consideration of surgery may be needed.
